“While most of my work revolves around the quasi-mythos and pristine packaging of stunt drivers, I am not concerned with the excessive intellectualisation behind the speed records or the supersonic jets. I am more interested in those who embody a form of post-reason thinking; not anti-intellectual, but pre-intellectual and purely sensory. I am a firm believer that personality predates ideology, and that we are not motivated by ideological codes as grand and ambitious as the futurists told – but people are motivated by impulse, we construct codes and strap rockets to the back of cars to justify their irresponsible behaviour. And rationalise what they were already going to do. There is an obscenity in believing metal could be as transformative as a cocoon, and while many people believe that happiness and greatness are incompatible. I am absorbed in those who are trying to jam-pack the two in like a tin of sardines.”
